23 Aug 2007 AWDS Inaugural Charity Gala Dinner

On 23 August 2007, the Association of Women Doctors Singapore (AWDS) hosted a Charity Gala Dinner at the Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa in aid of Sanctuary House and Star Shelter. The Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan was the guest of honor and his Welcome Speech opened the evening nicely.

It was a night of great food, courtesy of the hotel and two guest chefs, Michael Han and Ryan Hong, lively entertainment thanks to the ACJC Choir, Selena Tan and Emma Yong, and above all, generosity and support for the two charities. Guests participated in a Charity Auction in which MC, Nadya Hutagalung, and Dr. Wong Chiang Yin did an admirable job trying to coax guests into buying beautiful but expensive pieces of jewellery! A Raffle Drawing followed and items won included hotels stays in exotic locations, an evening on a luxury cruise yacht and spa treatments. The evening ended with an exotic flair from AWDS’s very own belly dancing doctors, the lovely Jelly Bellies!

Thanks to everyone’s hard work and generosity, the Charity Gala Dinner raised S$232,418.15, of which S$94,477.40 went to Sanctuary House and S$71,827.40 went to Star Shelter.
