Jewellery & Gemstone Appreciation by The Jewel Box
For members and friends of AWDS
14 November 2009
Mr Vinod More and his wife Sangeeta More, both Directors of the The Jewel Box (at 1 Scotts Road, Shaw Centre, #25-04, Singapore 228208) played gracious hosts to an intimate gathering of members and friends of AWDS one Saturday afternoon.
As the ladies caught up over delightful nibbles and snacks thoughtfully prepared by Sangeeta herself, the bubbly flowed, setting the mood for an engaging and intimate soiree. Ladies were entertained to an interactive session on appreciating rubies, sapphires, emeralds. The room echoed with oohs and aahs, and knowing nods of enlightened beings, as little trays of gems were passed around the room for perusal and discussion.
The questions came thick and fast as the crowd enjoyed Vinod and Sangeeta’s informal question and answer session, opinions and viewpoints heard, and myths debunked. Popular stone-setting methods were also discussed (did you know about the prong, bezel, channel, pave and gypsy/flush settings before this?), as were fancy cut diamonds.
Ladies were also brought up to speed on diamond imitators and simulants…the differences between a cubic zirconia, yag (yttrium aluminium garnet), moissanite, and strontium titanite or fabulite, and the intricacies of buying diamonds & gemstones, along with natural / treated / synthetic diamonds.
It was a fun-filled session as ladies tried on the jewellery on display, discussed how to reset or restore some old jewellery and amidst much laughter, some tested the hardness of their own diamond jewellery with that “beeping device”, with squeals of delight “Phew! It’s real! My husband loves me!”
The event was indeed an enjoyable one, meticulously put together by the Directors of The Jewel Box and their team, with special credit to Fidya Sulienny, complete with a 12 page handout on the topics broached during the “Presentation on Diamonds and Coloured Stones fro AWDS”, testament to their immaculate service and reputation as “Private Jewellers of Distinction”.
