29 October 2008: “Blonde Bombshells of 1943” presented by the British Theatre Playhouse, in aid of MILK fund (Babes)
Based on the award winning BBC TV film “Last of the Blonde Bombshells” starring Judi Dench, British Theatre Playhouse and Etihad Airways presented “BLONDE BOMBSHELLS OF 1943”, a musical comedy by Alan Plater.
Starring a multi-talented cast from the UK who can act, sing and play at least one musical instrument each, the performers delighted the audience with a knock-out concert in the second half of the show. Songs from Glenn Miller to Fats Waller were performed LIVE on stage, including DON’T SIT UNDER THE APPLE TREEE, GOODBYE, T’AINT’ WHAT YOU DO, BODY AND SOUL and UNTIL THE REAL THING COMES ALONG
The show was not lacking in humour. Attendees enjoyed ice cream, cocktails and free-flow of wine during the intermission. The show was followed by a four-course dinner at the Raffles Hotel Ballroom and a charity auction held.
AWDS supported with a few tables and Dr Ann Tan was on the organizing committee of this charity gala premier. $97,000 was raised for “Babes”, a programme supported by the MILK fund, that helps teenage girls with unplanned pregnancies so that they do not abandon their babies.
