19 August 2009: 11th AGM at NOvus Café, National Museum of Singapore. “Everything you wanted to know about watches & didn’t dare ask!”
AWDS ladies and friends gathered at the Novus Café for the 11th Annual General Meeting. The meeting was called to order at 7.10pm, and started off with the 10th AGM minutes being passed. Pictures from last year’s 10th dinner anniversary celebrations at Raffles Town Club were screened. Then as part of her President’s report, Dr Wendy Teoh shared that membership had increased by 14% last year. She explained the history and role of AWDS to the new members in the audience, and shared future plans and vision for the society. AWDS had a very active and fruitful year, organizing 14 events in the last 12months. Dr Teoh took the audience through a “live” audio-visual display of the year’s past events on the AWDS website. The events encompassed public health education, mentoring junior doctors and medical students, charitable activities in support of needy children, networking with other women groups and fun activities for AWDS members. The secretary and treasurer reports were passed uneventfully, and the the AGM ended at 8:30pm.
Members present were then treated to an interesting talk by the invited speaker, Dr Bernard Cheong, “Everything you wanted to know about Watches, but didn’t dare ask!”. He gave a most educational and enlightening exposition on watches, sharing his insights into the industry, what to look out for in terms of the design, manufacture, technical aspects of choosing an “investment” piece. Members had a lively, interactive discussion with him on what brands were deemed “valuable” and there was much interest in the select prestigious time pieces on display in the Hour Glass showcase.
AWDS acknowledges and thanks Novus for their favourable deal, yummy canapés and audio-visual support; the Hour Glass for bringing in the watches, carrier bags and a whole team of support staff; ACP Magazines for the Women’s Weekly and Dr Jade Kua for donating the wines for the night.
