13 August 2008: AWDS 10th Anniversary Dinner & AGM
Held at the Ball Room of Raffles Town Club, 42 attendees came together to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of AWDS. The event was graced by all the past presidents of AWDS: Dr Lucy Ooi, inaugural AWDS president 1998-2000, Dr Anne Tan Kendrick 2000-2004, Dr Daphne Khoo 2004-2006, Dr Ann Tan 2006-2008. The evening started with the 10th Annual General Meeting where a review of 9th AGM minutes, President’s, Secretary, and Treasurer report for 2007-08 was read and passed.
A vibrant and new executive committee of AWDS was then voted in to helm the society from 2008-2010. Dr Wendy Teoh (who was Vice President 2006-2008 and Assistant Treasurer 2004-2006) was unanimously appointed the President by all present without contest and swiftly installed to succeed Dr Ann Tan, who was moving on to become President of SCWO (Singapore Council of Women's Organisations).
The evening’s 10th Anniversary celebrations kicked off with blowing of candles and cutting of the AWDS Anniversary Cake, a sumptuous buffet dinner and dessert spread. The free flow of wine kept the jolly banter up as ladies mingled and caught up with old friends and new friendships were also made.
Invited Speakers Tan Su Shan and Norma Sit then took to the floor and gave a lively and engaging presentation on “Doctoring Our Money”.
Tan Su Shan, a well renowned figure in the financial sector, Head of Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management, South East Asia & Australia, spoke on investment instruments and took questions from the floor on the current economic climate and outlook.
Norma Sit, an entrepreneur of the Liveworks brand and volunteer Executive Director of Youth Life Ownership Limited, spoke about financial-related items to watch out for in different phases of one’s lives, and shared experiences based on her book ‘Gorgeous, Sexy and Rich’ (to be published by Marshall Cavendish and due out Christmas 2008)
Carol Seah- from WBC, a certified financial planner, was also present to field questions regarding debt and other personal finance items.
It was a fun and engaging evening enjoyed by all, with the ladies going home with roses and pink goody bags filled with pink pens, pink tissues, pink passport holders, pink folders, spa and massage treats, Pepp Pills, Chicken essence, gourmet coffee, makeup and skin care samples.
AWDS thanks our kind dinner sponsors Pan Malayan Pharmaceuticals, who also presented AWDS with a special pink- lighted “W” logo display box, on the occasion of our 10th anniversary.
