I am Chew May Ling. My story is typical of a daughter of Singapore. I was born, educated and am working on our island nation, am married to another heartlander, started our first home in a HDB flat before upgrading to a condominium, have 3 daughters who studied in the same primary school I did and my family enjoys travelling and checking out food outlets. I also like reading fiction, going to the movies and attending variety of drama, music or dance performances. I especially look out for local productions and appreciate that our local productions have improved in quality and quantity.
I have been a Family Physician for 20 years and have a clinic (with a partner) in Woodlands for the last 14 years. The most interesting aspect of being a Family Physician is meeting and conversing with people from all walks of life. I also like that I can be my own boss and usually have the flexibility to adjust my working schedule to fit with the needs of my family.
However, working at a private clinic in the neighbourhood means I am not in regular contact with my medical colleagues. Hence, I am enthusiastic that AWDS committee meetings and activities provides me with occasions to interact with fellow doctors and dentists!
